AstraZeneca Canada, Mississauga
The project consisted of a five-storey office building, a galleria and a curved pedestrian way. The office component has two segments separated by a full height atrium. Curves play a central role in the design of the complex with the north façade of the building and the 138 m long enclosed and curved pedestrian way being very prominent. Hard and soft landscaping within the galleria and adjacent to the pedestrian way makes the spaces people-friendly.
The design of the galleria features customised steel tree-columns and steel roof beams tapered for both structural efficiency and aesthetics. The galleria serves as an assembly area which links the new facility to the existing buildings to the south on the main level. Its varying width emphasises the structure and creates the illusion of a much bigger space. A new enclosed pedestrian way curves between the Business Centre and the existing manufacturing/warehouse and also service the Amenities Building.
